We were tasked by The Royal Mint to create key visuals for the first in a series of “Royal Mint Master Works”. The Phoenix Ascendant. A very prestigious project with a creative brief that allowed our imagination to run wild.
The Phoenix was a mythical bird that regularly renewed itself by rising from the ashes of its former self. Our aim was to create a series of images that represented various stages of the Phoenix rising and another to capture the magic involved in the engraving process.
The coin itself designed by Chief Engraver Gordon Summers and struck from a 1kilo silver blank, using a unique damascening technique. Just 2 pieces will be sold at over £250,000. A third piece was struck and displayed by The Royal Mint at international exhibitions and in the new Royal Mint Visitor Centre.
